The Rise of “Tech Neck”

One of the most widely discussed issues is “tech neck,” a condition associated with repeatedly tilting the head forward while using mobile devices. Medical experts explain that the farther the head leans forward, the greater the load placed on the neck and upper spine.

Over time, this posture can strain muscles, place extra pressure on spinal discs and joints, and contribute to neck and shoulder pain. In severe or prolonged cases, poor posture may also affect breathing efficiency by limiting chest expansion.

Smartphones are not the only gadgets drawing attention from health experts. Dermatologists say smartwatches worn continuously—especially when fitted too tightly—can trap sweat and moisture against the skin.

This environment may increase the risk of irritation, eczema or allergic reactions in some users. Regularly cleaning both the watch and the skin underneath, while occasionally removing the device, can help reduce these issues.
