A fresh spell of intense summer heat is taking hold across parts of the United Kingdom, with forecasters expecting temperatures to reach the mid-30s Celsius in parts of England during the middle of the week. The prolonged spell of warm, dry weather has also increased concerns about wildfire risks in several parts of the UK. Much of southern England has received well below average rainfall during July, leaving grassland and vegetation unusually dry. Fire services have urged the public to avoid activities that could accidentally ignite fires, including using disposable barbecues in open countryside and improperly discarding cigarettes.
The dry conditions add to broader concerns over water supplies and the environmental effects of one of the warmest summers in recent years, with some regions already experiencing drought-related restrictions.
