Former Love Island contestant Elicia Bailey has addressed the controversy surrounding comments made by current Islander Priya Jaswal, saying she was taken aback by the way her career became part of an on-screen argument.
Speaking on the Love Island: The Debrief podcast after the episode aired, Bailey described the remarks about her job as “crazy” and rejected suggestions that her earlier criticism of Priya had been driven by bitterness.

Responding on the official companion podcast, Bailey said she believed Priya’s reaction was more revealing than her original observation.
She explained that she had simply answered a question during her Aftersun appearance and had not singled Priya out without reason. Bailey also suggested that differing opinions about Priya’s behaviour had been shared by others, making the personal focus on her employment particularly surprising.
Reflecting on the exchange, Bailey said bringing her profession into the disagreement felt unnecessary and described the decision to target her work as a “personal attack.”

The comments did not go unchallenged inside the villa.
Contestant Kavan Murphy immediately defended Bailey, telling Priya there was nothing wrong with working for National Rail. Later, Aidan Murphy also said he felt parts of Priya’s remarks had crossed a line, distancing himself from the criticism aimed at Bailey’s job.
Outside the villa, viewers also reacted strongly after the episode aired. Social media users criticised Priya’s remarks as dismissive of ordinary workers, with many describing them as classist and disrespectful toward people in regular professions.
